
We are pleased to announce that the ICNS Executive Committee has selected Aloke Roy as the 2026 recipient of the ICNS Champion Award in recognition of his exemplary contributions to advancing communications, navigation and surveillance technologies and infrastructure for aviation, as well as his long-standing commitment to the ICNS Conference.
Presented annually by the ICNS Executive Committee and the Digital Avionics Technical Committee, the ICNS Champion Award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of CNS technologies and the evolution of modern air traffic management concepts and procedures. Both scientific and policy-related achievements are considered.
Aloke Roy, the 2026 ICNS Champion, has made significant contributions to CNS/ATM during more than 40 years of professional practice. He is managing partner at VisionAR Systems, LLC, which provides systems engineering services to the aerospace industry. Previously, he was with Honeywell’s Advanced Technology organization, where he managed data communications, information security, and radio technology development programs supporting Honeywell Aerospace. His prior experience includes serving as director of programs at Flextronics Corp. and holding various positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories and ARINC Aviation Systems Division.
In addition to his industry work, Aloke has contributed to several standards-making organizations. He was very active in RTCA and served as chair of RTCA Special Committee 223. In ICAO, he was a longtime adviser to the FAA in the ICAO Communications Panel.
Aloke holds several patents in aeronautical, wireless and secure communications. He served as president from 2017 to 2018 of a Maryland-DC-Virginia volunteer cultural organization with more than 1,000 members. He also served as chair of the IEEE AESS Avionics Systems Panel from 2019 to 2020 and as chair of the IEEE AESS Cyber Security Panel from 2023 to 2024.
Let’s not forget Aloke’s strong dedication to the DASC and ICNS conferences. He served as a track chair and technical program chair, and as conference general chair for DASC in 2019 and ICNS in 2017 and 2023.
